Northern Institute of Cosmetology Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (CARES Act) Policy

In an effort to accommodate students and for continuance of their education, despite interruptions caused by COVID-19, the Federal Government and the U.S. Department of Education has authorized Northern Institute of Cosmetology to disburse Emergency Cash Grants amounting to $54,476.00.

The Emergency Cash Grants purpose is to advance funds to students for essential expenses, be it food, housing, materials, technology, health care and childcare expenses covered under the schools' cost of attendance during the COVID-19 interruption.

The following NIC CARES Act Policy outlines how we will provide the Federal Emergency Grant Funds to students who complete the 
specified application.

The U.S. Department of Education requires Northern Institute of Cosmetology, as a CARES Act grant program participant, to report and publish the following information on our website:

  1. Northern Institute of Cosmetology has signed and returned the Department Certification and Agreement and has used or intends to use 50% of the CARES Act funds to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants for its students.

  2. Northern Institute of Cosmetology has received $54,476.00 of Emergency Financial Aid Grants for its students.

  3. Northern Institute of Cosmetology reported that, within 30 days, the eligible students received $25,674.00 and, within 45 days, the eligible students received a total of $33,488.10 in Emergency Financial Aid Grants.

  4. Northern Institute of Cosmetology estimates that 35 students were eligible to receive the Emergency Financial Aid Grant.

  5. Of the 35 students who were eligible to receive the Emergency Financial Aid Grant, 34 students received the Emergency Financial Aid Grant. 1 student did not return to the Northern Institute of Cosmetology after its re-opening.

  6. Northern Institute of Cosmetology maintains receipts with corresponding check numbers and dollar amounts which each student signs when receiving the emergency grant. A roster is also kept with the student’s name, date the money was received, check number, and the amount of the check.

  7. Northern Institute of Cosmetology maintains a policy with instructions, directions, and guidance for students concerning the Emergency Financial Aid Grants. Each student is asked to read and sign a document regarding the receipt of emergency funds.
